Allandale Demographics

Residents of this diverse neighborhood, which includes empty-nesters, young families, and a wide range of Central Austin types, will tell you that they enjoy a sense of community that’s strong because neighbors are involved in the schools, the many churches, and of course, the very active neighborhood association. The Allandale Neighborhood Association takes its responsibilities seriously, and keeps a close eye on the quality of life in that lush, charming corner of “Old Austin.”

Allandale brings to mind the old saying about real estate: “they’re not making any more of it.” That couldn’t be more true when it comes to Austin’s older neighborhoods. Although they certainly are making more neighborhoods, there’s just no substitute for one of the original, authentic sweet spots of Austin. Shady trees, strong ties among neighbors, charming houses built with old-fashioned quality—there’s just no way to replicate the strengths of a neighborhood like Allandale.

In the southern portion of the neighborhood, many older bungalows and sprawling ranch-style homes retain their vintage charm, while a significant portion are being significantly remodeled and expanded to meet the needs of modern families. A few two-story homes can be found in the slightly newer, northern sections.

Neighborhood amenities include Beverly S. Sheffield Northwest District Park (one of the city’s biggest, and recently upgraded due to the efforts of Allandale residents), which features an Olympic-size swimming pool along with its tennis courts, basketball courts, playgrounds and picnic areas. Shoal Creek also runs through the area, and residents have access to the city’s Northwest Recreation Center.

The airport is just 10 miles away, and downtown even closer—barely four miles. Which means all the entertainment options of the Live Music Capital of the world are also just a quick trip away.

There’s a lot more to a neighborhood than just the amenities, though, particularly if you choose to settle in a strong, established place like Allandale.
